Susan es considerada la mejor dentro del selecto grupo de alumnos de la escual de baile de New York. La competitividad entre los alumnos se agudiza cuando tienen noticia de una audición que seleccionará a tres de ellos. Poco a poco los bailarines están siendo asesinados en extrañas circunstancias. Candice, su profesora, sospecha de George, actor caído en desgracia por un oscuro incidente. El problema es que se siente atraída por él. La única pista con la que cuenta el inspector Norges es el arma de los crímenes, una afilada aguja en el corazón.
