Tras su estancia en un sanatorio mental, la condesa de Bressac regresa a su hogar y encuentra un panorama desolador: su marido la desprecia y la humilla junto a su nuevo amante, un joven bisexual. Además, los dos hombres desarrollan sus perversiones sexuales con una joven monja a la que encuentran herida en el bosque. La frágil condición mental de la condesa llevará a los personajes hacia un final en el que se unen el sexo y la muerte.
